Can't update PAE kernel

Hi Guys,

I have a DELL vostro 1500. in order for me to get my wireless working, i had to install a pae kernel for the drivers to work. After I did that, I get the error, ‘“cant find the dependancies” for my kernel’.

What should I do? I need my wireless.

BTW its broadcom 1390 wireless integrated card.

Please give the output of the following commands:

rpm -qa kernel*
zypper sl -u
zypper search -s kernel-pae
zypper in kernel-pae

each as root.

Hi, I re-installed the system. Hopefully it should work then

I’ll be interested to know why the PAE kernel should have any effect on the wireless.

I’m not sure you know. I followed the instructions of a guy on howto website. he said to install the normal kernel but it would not work. So added the PAE kernel to the install and booted with it. then loaded the broadcom drivers into the kernel. The installation was using a ymp file.

Well, i’m running KDE now. seems very stable now. I had some horrible days with 4.0 lol. Just trying to figure out how to add more window title bar themes than plastic and oxygen ones.

Hi guys,

THanks for the links. I installed the bcm4311 really easily last night.

What i did was to

  1. sudo /usr/sbin/install_bcm43xx_firmwareC
  2. sudo modprobe -rv b43
    3.sudo /sbin/modprobe -rv b43
    4.sudo /sbin/modprobe -v b43

Done YAY. and for those who had dell laptops with internal webcams in your inspirons, just check your hardware information. If you seed the drivers uvcvideo then you can do

modprobe uvcvideo and test it out.

I guess this for the noobs. Don’t chastise me. lol

What i want though is to be able to change the titlebar of the windows. The only option i have is oxygen, plastik and a few ugly looking others. How can I download them. When i went to kcontrol, the only themes it would let me install is the .kth themes. But i don’t know how to select them to run. AAA getting a bit fustrated :wink:

Any help would be nice.

I might need to start a new thread though lol
