but everything works fine on my laptop.

any help will be thanked

thank you

What are you using to update your laptop?
The applet in the system tray? Or YaST?

the applet in the system tray

same thing on desktop

There’s probably some conflict that needs your input. In this case the applet just throws up an error and updates nothing - presumably to ensure the right choice gets made.

What you need to do is open YaST.

  1. Press Alt-F2
  2. Type “yast2”
  3. Press enter.
  4. Open “Software Management”
  5. In the Menu Bar…Select “Package” → “All Packages” → “Update if newer version available”
  6. YaST should then ask if it’s ok for you to update X number of packages.
  7. YaST should then ask about what you want to do regarding the conflicts.

**Note: these instructions assume you are using KDE.
**The terminal instructions provided by malcolmlewis below work regardless of your desktop.
**I have a habit of assuming people are afraid of the terminal…that’s something I have to work on.

On a new install these conflicts often have to do with vendor changes, that is suppose you’ve added the Packman repository because you followed a guide somewhere…the system wants to know if it’s ok to change some of the software from being supplied by openSUSE to being supplied by Packman.

Hi
Try it from the command line (CLI), open console/konsole;

sudo zypper ref
sudo zypper lu
sudo zypper up

The first command refreshes the repositories, the second lists any
updates, the third will apply the updates.
