Ideas?

Finally got this one kinda sorted. I don’t know what changed in MariaDB, but something did, and it totally hosed itself. Removing and re-installing didn’t enable me to start MariaDB either, and deleting /var/lib/mysql didn’t help either. I did eventually manage to start the mysqld as root: “sudo /usr/sbin/mysqld &” and after this I could stop and then re-start mysql normally using “systemctl start mysql.service”. Then I imported the databases again. The users were of course also hosed, and Webmin 1.760 threw a bunch of errors when creating the new users. I’m not convinced all is well.

Some further digging seems to indicate that the command to start MariaDB:
systemctl start mysql.service
…and the command used by the Yast Services Manager no longer are correct for the Tumbleweed version of MariaDB.

Instead one can to start it like so:
sudo /usr/sbin/mysqld -u mysql &

Can someone confirm that this is a general issue?
