Can't set up default gateway and DNS permanently

Hello, I’m new to OpenSUSE distribution (butI’ve already installed succesfully other non-SUSE distributions with success) and I have the problem written in the object.

I’ve successfully setup the static IP address for the ethernet interface with Yast → Network Settings → Overview and Edit button. Then I’ve tried to setup DNS and gateway in this way: Hostname/DNS tab, entered IP address of DNS in Name Server 1, than, in tab Routing, I put de IP address of the default gateway. But when I click finish, a message say me “Error. Download failed…<some informationA>” i.e. the settings weren’t acquired.

More: I’m logged in with root, so no problem, or I think so, of permissions; if I try to setup default gateway throw route add default gw … and setup DNS in the /etc/resolv.conf, Firefox navigate succesfully in internet. But then if I try to setup DNS and default gateway throw Yast → Network setttings, think doesn’t function anymore.

Any suggestion? Perhaps OpenSUSE 10 have not this problems?

Thanks for any advice

Am having the EXACT same problem.

DHCP/Dynamic IPs work fine but …

To make DNS work with static IP I have to edit the /etc/resolv.conf manually after having used Yast Network Configuration.

Worse yet … after every reboot, the “nameserver” entry in the /etc/resolv.conf is removed by the system - even if made readonly.
