Can't see videos in Kaffeine

Hi,

I’m using suse 12.3 with KDE Each time I want to see a video in Kaffeine a message appears:

Kaffeine currently cannot play some file formats. Do you want to install additional support?

The options are install or no. I click on install, enter the root password and the Repositories I installed are displayed, I click ok, and all the same thing, the roos password again and it’s a loop with no end.

Does somebody knows which package I have to install to see videos in Kaffeine ?

Or how to end with this loop of the repositories screen-root password ask ?

Thanks in advance for any feedback,

Regards

hi,

if playing DVDs break after an update the script ‘mmcheck’ can be used

see SUSE Paste

stepping through all the checks could get Kaffeine working

or have a look at 13. Multimedia Codecs - Install Support For MP3, DVD, WMA, WMV, MOV etc.

suggestion, try vlc instead, on the desktops here it works very well

In Yast - Software - Softwarerepos, click add, select Repos maintained by the community, select Packman.
Then start the software manager, it will auto select codec packages for install. Accept, wait until done, restart Kaffeine and try some video that wouldn’t play before.

On VLC videos works fine. Now I have to see how to fix the Kaffeine issue.

thanks,

agunet

In the software manager, pick View - Repos, then tick the Packman repo.
Next, click the “Switch system packages …” option on the top right, and accept the vendor changes. That should give you a Kaffeine package from Packman, that’s not crippled.

Now It works on kaffeine and VLC !!

Thank you very much !

My kaffeine plays fine, and it comes from openSUSE, not packman. It is
xine which has to come from packman.

Did you realize you are replying to two identical threads?

With different posts.

I have no idea why, but I see two different threads with the same
subject line. But the posts are different, I’m answering to two
different ones.

Do try out the codecs.ymp
Its a metapackage that will install practically all codecs you will need.

As long as you don’t mind that, it was late here, and now I’m not bothered with either.
