Can't read the contents of a folder

Hi,

I have a folder that I can open in Dolpin, but it is showing 0 documents and folders even though it has several files in it. When I try to read the contents in the folder from the console, I get the following result:

brahmavihara@linux-0xse:~/Documents/Mat> ls
ls: reading directory .: Structure needs cleaning

Luckily, I can access the files when I boot into my previous snapshot with kernel 4.3.3 (instead of 4.4.0). So I’ve backed up the files in a new folder.

Since it is the second time that this is happening with a folder, I’d like to find what I can do to stop it from occurring again.

Any ideas what “Structure needs cleaning” might mean and what I can do about it?

Do you mean this is kernel version dependent? When that is the case, I suggest that, after waiting for more educated advice then I can give, it might be worth a report at bugzilla.

I have no idea. I mentioned it because, afaik, opensuse creates new snapshots after a new kernel version has been upgraded. But, the kernel wasn’t the only package that got updated. Prior to the upgrade everything was working normally, and I thought that might be information of interest.

Of course it is!
