i have suse 11.3 and a brother mfc495-cw printer i downloaded driver from bro. site cupswrapper rpm. and the other one. it now shows up as a printer on my computer but still cant printer from network nor does it recognize it. can anyone help?
Install the “other one” rpm before you install the “cups wrapper” rpm.
Swerdna is usually right on all these things, but another to try is sometimes folks find that if they paste
into a spare local browser window; it may help;
this opens CUPS: printer controller;
if you try: middle column: add printer: and then in new screen: top-left: again, click on add printer: any joy?
Did you follow the instruction before installing the rpm?
from the instruction it says
<li style="">Pre-required Procedure (1)Related distributionsopenSUSE 10.3 or earlierRelated products/driverscupswrapper printer/PC-FAX driversRequirement"lppasswd -g sys -a root" command is required before the installation.(Setting the root password is required befor you can issue this command.)
It is for opensuse 10.3 it will be the same in 11.3
