Can't open any webpage

I just installed OpenSuse 11.2 and I can’t see any webpages. I can contact my modem, and if I type 66.102.7.99 in Firefox it gets me to the google webpage, however if I type google.com it says that it can’t find the server.

Right now I’m connected using OpenSuse 10.3 that I had in a different partition. I’m trying to replicate the settings from 10.3 to 11.2 but to no aval.

I hope you can help me with this as is really hard to be without a proper internet connection

Open a terminal and become su

run this, see if it works

zypper up

Frequently this is because openSUSE can’t resolve domain names to IP addresses. It’s often fixed by coding into your network settings:
(a) the IP addresses for your internet gateway (e.g. router in the modem)
and/or
(b) the IP addresses of the name servers supplied by your ISP

Some pictorial illustrations are here [a bit old but it illustrates the point]:

@caf4926, doing zypper up failed as it wasn’t able to resolve the address

@ swerdna, Thanks for your graphical tutorial. I moved things around using your pictures until it worked.

@ passerby, That’s very weird. What happens when you type 66.102.7.104 in your webbrowser?
