Can't mount usb disk

Hi!

Some days ago i’ve usb removable disk working in kde4. I don’t remember if i’ve touched something (i don’t think so) because i’ve had some problems when copying huge amounts of thata (filesystem was remounted ro on errors because it was the default behaviour and I’ve seen that if I change the behaviour to continue on errors it works fine), but now i insert a usb stick and nothing happens. It doesnt appear on kde, but on a system log that’s what i have:

That is: device is detected but it says" device: was not an MTP device"

It isn’t detecting it well because an fdisk does not report it.

any help?

regards

It appears that the the mtp-probe (from libmtp udev rules) is incorrectly grabbing your device. Do you have any MTP devices that you connect to? If not, one workaround I can think of is to remove libmtp9 for now. A bug report should certainly be considered.

It may also be possible to write a udev rule to grab this this device (by its vendor and product ID’s) ahead of the problematic MTP rule(s). I could try and assist if necessary.

Another thought that just came to me. I have been experimenting with MTP in an effort to assist others recently. I installed ‘libmtp9-1.1.5-1.1.x86_64’ from here:

software.opensuse.org:

Maybe you could consider upgrading to one of the ‘unstable’ 1.1.5 versions. For the record, there have been some big changes with libmtp9, and mtp-probe is no longer part of the library, and the associated udev rules have changed. So, this may solve your problem with the false detection, and allow your device to be handled correctly once again.

I don’t kwnow if it’s a ghost in my computer.
I’ve used the winodws method: switch off and swoth on again. On boot the graphical screen does not fit well the monitor: resolution is changed.
Then i got a lot of error because I have net filesystems mounted on boot but they seem not available.
I made a ifconfig and I noticed I had only the lo interface.
I tried to reboot again with the same result
I enter kde and a message says that sound card and a lot of hardware is not available

A cat /var/log/messages gave me an astonishing result:

I remembered that some weeks ago I was getting out of space in my root partition and then I copied the full root partition (via cp -a ) to another partition (my root partition now, sda2) but I keep the old root partition (sda6), so I get a super grub disk to boot the old partition, I select one linux installation from grub disk and surplrinsingly it boots again my actual root partition (sda2) but everithing work fine (even usb stick). I’m now typing from it, I’ve reinstalled grub, and I’m crossing my fingers before the new reboot to test. But I can’t understand why is it happening.

regards

I realise you’re probably having a lot of different issues to contend with, but discussing them all here just complicates the thread, so in general, one topic per thread.

Are you login as root? That can break things.

Yes, the last problem was a grub configuration problem. But once solved usb problem has also disappeared.
The only thing I’ve done (besides grub reconfiguration/reinstallation) was install mtptools and mtpfs after usb error and before grub error, and deinstall them both after grub error.

Now I can’t reproduce the error but I think that the message “device was not an mtp device” has nothing to do with the error, because now all is working fine and I have got the same message
