Can't Mount CD and DVD Drives

I just installed openSUSE 11.2, but I can’t use my two optical disk drives /dev/sr0 and /dev/sr1 because the operating system can’t find them. These drives aren’t listed in my fstab file:

/dev/disk/by-id/ata-ST3160815AS_9RA615CK-part1 / ext3 acl,user_xattr 1 1
proc /proc proc defaults 0 0

Should they be listed here? If so, what do I need to write in order to reference them correctly.

No they should not be there (in fstab)

In kde4 enable places in dolphin’s view mode
All devices should show in there and in the panel, in the device notifier

Yes, my two optical drives are listed in Places (in Gnome),but I get an error message “Cannot locate drive” when I try to play a CD or DVD.:X

I didn’t know gnome had “Places” like KDE4.

If you are saying the cd/dvd shows in your file manager. Good.You wouldn’t be “Playing” the media from here though would you. Just reading the contents.
A Video DVD for example would be “Played” with something like VLC. And you may need to point it to the correct device (probably: sr0 or sr1)

You need to tell us exactly what you are doing and if necessary include a screenshot.

First, I place an audio CD in the tray of my DVD drive, press the open-close button on the DVD drive to retract the tray, the tray retracts, then on my Gnome desktop appears an error message box that says:

Unable to mount audio disc
Cannot find /dev/sr1

/dev/sr1
Indicates to me that this is the 2nd of two cd/dvd drives you have? Am I correct?

If you only have One cd/dvd drive then it should be /dev/sr0

I can read the contents of an audio cd in KDE file manager with

audiocd:/

But to play them you should use a Music Player
Rip them with Packmans Jripper
