Can't make Gigabyte GA-E7AUM-DS2H onboard nvidia 9400 work

Total opensuse newb, but I really like what I see. My problem is that I can’t get graphics out of VESA mode. Which for my purposes would be fine, except that I can’t get VESA to match my display’s 1440x900 ratio, so I get skewed looking graphics.

I’ve tried the nvidia one click install (the one for the newest cards) and it says it installed successfully. Unfortunately, nothing positive happens after that.

I’ve tried running nvidia-xconfig, and at reboot the computer will fail to start x.

I’ve tried running sax2 -r, which gets X working again, but under VESA.

I just can’t seem to get the OS to recognize the video.

Try with:

sax2 -r -m 0=nvidia
