I recently installed openSuse 12.3 on my Laptop. I had to install wireless drivers, so i looked up what chip I have ( BCM43225 ) and connected with a LAN cable to install broadcom-wl.
I did a reboot and now I can’t login anymore. I can get to the login screnn, but after entering my password and hitting enter the loginfield disapears and nothing happens.
I can get into a tty BEFORE I try to log in, I tried uninstalling broadcom-wl again, but when I do a command, nothing comes back, it’s not that the system freezes, it just doesn’t respond (Ctrl + C does not work either).
Does anyone know a way to get this to a working system or do I have to reinstall?
I guess this happens because “the command” tries to access the internet to refresh the repodata.
Please try to uninstall broadcom-wl with zypper using the “–no-refresh” option:
But what is now the right way to install the wireless drivers.
I read that the driver for the Broadcom BCM 43225 chip is included in the kernel, but it does not work out-of-the-box. So I also read, that if the kernel driver does not work i had to install broadcom-wl but then I get that weird locking when I try to login.
Also if you can connect by wire do an update. there are network issues with the install media for 12.3 (read stickies at top of this section) being sure that all is updated my eliminate some of those problems. But in any case reconfiguring in Yast probably will need to be done.
