This is weird. I shut down last evening and all was well. I hadn’t done any configuring. This morning I can’t log in to either Suse or Ubuntu. Here is a partial of the first error message: “user’s $home/.dmrc file is geing ignored” I’m in Fedora now.
Google churned up this
[SOLVED] users $home/.dmrc file is being ignored [Archive] - Ubuntu Forums](http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-491591.html)
I’m wondering if you are sharing /home partition?
Thanks. Actually I had Googled that myself but, can’t see why it affected two distros. All my /home directories are separate. The only thing common is the swap partition.
It’s possible one of the installers has affected it, but it’s kinda complex. You could use the install dvd to check it out with the repair.
Thanks again I’ll try that later; busy with market now. It’s just puzzling as to why this would happen when all was ok last night. The only thing different was that Suse had updated its’ kernel and I had to edit Ubuntu’s menu.lst which was how I found out that I couldn’t log into Ubuntu. I had to come into Fedora and edit Ubuntu’s menu.lst to boot Suse which now won’t let me in.
I tried to use the suggestion from [SOLVED] users $home/.dmrc file is being ignored [Archive] - Ubuntu Forums](http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-491591.html)
chmod 644 .dmrc and chmod 700 ~ but, Suse won’t accept my password to root. Arrggggggggghhhhh!>:(
