Can't log in to onine accounts (bank, credit card, etc.)

Not sure where to post this question, so if this is not the place, please, someone let me know where is the right place;

More and more sites are using newer Adobe crapware in their sites, and since Adobe no longer supports Linux, I can’t log in to them. There will be fields for “user name” and “password”, then a button to click to “log in” - but now the button won’t click - it’s only a “picture” of a button, no response at all, nothing happens.

I’m only assuming it’s an Adobe issue, maybe something else but I have no way to know.

Any ideas, anyone?

AMD Athlon II X4 640 3.0GHz Gigabyte GA-M68MT-S2P, 8GB DDR3-1333
Firefox 23.0, Thunderbird 17.0.8

If this is about Flashplayer, that’s still available.

So far I have just seen this at one site DIrectTV. Worked for years then in march they modified the site and I no longer can pay my bill via Web

Hi Knurpht;

I just checked, am using:
flash-player 11.2.202.310-2.36.
flash-player-kde4 11.2.202.310-2.36.1
pullin-flash-player 12.3-2.1.1

Try Chrome - it doesn’t use Adobe’s flash implementation, but its own,
and it seems to work pretty well.

Otherwise, it’s really an issue to take up with the site owner (which,
sadly, usually results in “use a supported platform” - but unless you
complain they’ll never know).

FWIW, though, my bank/CC/mobile phone company/etc all work just fine in
Chrome and FF on Linux.

Pepperflash ( Google’s own implementation ) indeed works fine most of the time.
@OP: could you check whether it’s still flash that’s being used? Provide a link so we can give it a try?

Strange, I am using FireFox 23.0 and the same three flash rpms as listed.

I have no problem logging in to DIRECTV - #1 Satellite TV - Beats Cable TV - 1-855-802-3473

Hum: I wonder if it’s a Firefox problem.

Arrgh! Sounds like a lot of complaining to do…

As I said - “more and more” sites. You may lose access to your sites too, as they “upgrade” them.

Bah, humbug.

Incidentally, how can I edit the title of this thread so “onine” says “online”? I don’t see a way…

It could be.

Yep. That’s part of the life of a Linux user - complaining to companies
that would rather believe that we don’t exist. They won’t support us if
they don’t know how widespread we are, and the only way they know that is
if we complain.

I would be very surprised. I’m seeing less and less flash implemented,
actually, here in the US. Companies that decide that they don’t want my
business will lose it if they make it impossible for me to interact with
them without booting a Windows VM.

HTML5 is emerging as well, so I expect those sites who are now late on
the Flash bandwagon will ultimately switch to HTML5. Here in the US at
least, Flash-heavy sites also tend to not meet ADA requirements for
accessibility - another reason they tend to not implement flash unless
they absolutely need it (and let’s face it, if a bank is wasting time and
money on a flash-based interface, they’re spending their money on the
wrong thing. Another reason I’d dump my bank if they decided to do that).

See the FAQ regarding editing posts - I’ve changed the title in my reply
here, so further replies in this subthread at least will have the proper
spelling.

I know a bank on which FF fails to download account files. Chrome works.
And the page does not use Flash, AFAIK.

It’s a Costco log-on page Capital One Sign In: Log in to access your account(s) which requires a card # and a zip code to go through first - and there’s now an additional layer, the original Costco log-on page for which you need a user & passwd to access:
Capital One Sign In: Log in to access your account(s)

I found these lines in the Page Source for the long link, above:

    </tr>
    <tr>
        <td class="lbl"></td>
        <td id="logintd" class="fld"><input id="login" class="but"
            type="button" value="Sign In"  onclick="return onSubmitForm();" onkeypress="javascript:onKeypressFuntion(this,event);" /></td>
    </tr>

But in FF, there is no response to a click or an “Enter” from the keyboard.

I was able to connect with Konquerer - it all worked. Also not my favorite browser, but it comes with opensuse.

I’m thinking I need to take this over to Mozilla.

Thanks, guys … I’ll post back if I ever find an answer to this.

There is no flash in the first page.
I think you have some browser addon/plugin/extension like adblock or
noscript or redirect preventor installed which are known to cause some
issues

Try disabling all addons and logging in

GNOME 3.6.2
openSUSE Release 12.3 (Dartmouth) 64-bit
Kernel Linux 3.7.10-1.16-desktop

Did you actually try Chrome?
I input random info in the fields and hit submit and it actioned : But came back with ‘We are experiencing tech issues…’

This is something new, or at least recent, on that site. Jeez, I thought the bloody NS-bloody-A was bad…

At least now I know what it is. Thanks to all!

Sorry - I don’t see how to mark this as “Solved”. The “FAQ” for editing didn’t have much help.

The forums don’t have that option, since what works for you may not work for someone else. Though you can add “SOLVED” to the reply title …
