You didn’t say if you were Gnome or Kde
But k3b will rip, but you must have k3b and k3b-codecs from Packman

There are also a host of other rippers (jripper)

it really seems like i forgot that…xD
ok i’m using kde desktop… and i already had k3b… well this is embarrassing how do i know that the Cd is in the rack?.. 'cuz when i put an mp3 cd it’s automatically detected, but in the case of normal audio Cd’s doesn’t appear nothing…

thnx again and i’m going to follow the link instructions…
thnx

ok i’ve installed k3b and jripper… jripper doesn’t start… and k3b tellme that i haven’t a cd/dvd burner, and thats wrong, my cd/dvd also haves light scribe tecnology, so now what’s the trouble?

Try some other rippers:
asunder
acripper

When do you see the error in k3b. Normally at startup k3b makes a system check and a popup box reports on it.

There is bug in 11.1 you need to ad yourself to the cdrom group

Geoff, I thought there had been a fix for that. Well, at least my recent install and updated sys works fine - no workaround made.

thnx Geoff for the link…
but still can’t listen audio Cd’s… (i’m thinking that i’m not a not-newbie at all)
i don’t know if it’s something wrong with the cd driver…
and i have another question but it seems that another guy has the same trouble so i’ll give a look

any other ideas?

What exactly can you do with the drive. Does it read a data cd/dvd. Or lets say you put the suse cd/dvd in there. Can you browse the files?

Looks like the audio cds doesnt show up in the file manager even here kde or xfce, but if I open vlc or amarok, and point to the cd it will play the music.
Just loaded an audio cd and open k3b and went to tools-rip audio cd and shows all the contents of the audio cd and ready to be ripped.

Thing is the OP said:

i can’t listen or rip audio Cd’s.
and

when i put an mp3 cd it’s automatically detected, but in the case of normal audio Cd’s doesn’t appear nothing…
=============================

I keep meaning to get an audio cd out to try it. I just rip everything to the HD with k3b. Anyway, who want a cd whirring away:P

Thing is, if @valen_29 - you can read info from some cd’s, then your device must be working.

Do this from a terminal and lets see if you are using k3b from Packman

rpm -qi k3b k3b-codecs

yes i can play dvd’s (well I still don’t know how but i’m working in that)
also read and extract files from data cd/dvd
even mp3’s cd’s
but not normal audio cd’s

and when i put a cd in the drive amarok doesn’t recognize them (normal audio cd of course) and with k3b i can’t rip it, it seems like my cd drive doesn’t exists

thnx

yes i also have packman repositories… and when i wrote the command line show me how does the program works
but still can’t play it… thnx caf

Please

This package extends the opensuse package by some codecs.

Open software management and filter by repository and select Packman and scroll down to k3b. Click on the check box tick and it should change to a green update swirl. Double check in the ‘version’ tab lower down that the Packman radio button is selected.
