Can't install webcam, need help.

Hi all,

I have a webcam here, a generic Logitech round one.

Opensuse cannot “see” this cam.

How can I install this cam?

Thanks

Heeter

Have you checked dmesg, /var/log/messages, etc.?

What does the output of

/usr/bin/lsusb

give you?

This gives me:

is there anything helpful on this link:
Linux.com :: Configuring your webcam to work under Linux

we successfully installed a rather old webcam on gnome; on 11.0 recently; (to my surprise); amnesia prevents me remembering exactly what I did; YaST did leap in at one stage, and prompt a host of drivers to be downloaded from somewhere, and when we opened this new programme, Cheese, lo and behold, a webcam grinning back at us;

the above link mentions

an especially useful site is Michel Xhaard’s A Free World, whose Spca5xx drivers are starting to find their way into the repositories of major distributions.http://mxhaard.free.fr/spca5xx.html If your driver is listed on this site and your distribution includes packages for these drivers, then your webcam may be configurable automatically when the packages are installed, with little or no effort on your part.

your webcam is mentioned on Michel Xhaard’s website: quality is 3 out of 4

Hey guys,

How/what application do I fire up to see if it is working?

I have pidgen and Kopete open, but can’t anywhere where to start the webcam.

Thanks

Heeter

in kopete, have you looked under devices ? another program you could try is cheese

Andy

I did check under Devices, but I didn’t see no webcam option.

I will try cheese.

Thanks

Heeter

Oh well,

I fired up cheese, and it worked. Then I went back to Kopete and checked “Devices”, and it worked too.

Go figure.

Thanks for the help, guys,

Heeter
