Hi there, this is my first post here, and I hope to find some help.
I have a new computer with preinstalled windows XP. I wanted to install Open SUSE as a dual-boot system. I have tried ver. 11.3, 11.4, 12.1 but every installation ends after few welcome screens with the blue screen and a message: “Make sure that CD no 1 is in your drive”. I have no idea where to look any more. The hardvare is:
Yes, and the media is OK. But, when I run it on the new computer it says “No CD-rom or DVD found”. When I run it on the computer I am using now (OpenSuse 11.3), the media is OK.
The sata controller in BIOS is set to IDE (AHCI is off)
The BIOS is set to boot from CD drive.
I have booted from the installation disk, and after few splash screens (Wellcom; Instalation; etc) all in green color, I got the blue screen and the message mentioned in my first post.
It must be a hardware/BIOS issue if the installation CD checks out as OK. I’m puzzled by the blue screen - can’t remember ever getting one with openSUSE. It’s usually green, and if things go wrong, you get black. Blue suggests Windows (unlikely if you booted from the openSUSE CD) or BIOS.
I assume by “blue screen” he is referring to the text mode installer. I had the same issue. But, the media check tells me the dvd was bad. I get a matching md5 checksum on the iso that I have downloaded, but it seems that the installation DVD I created had errors. It could have been bad media. I’m going to try downloading the net installer, boot that off an USB stick, then install from a HTTP server with the iso mounted via loop.
Yes, the “blue screen” is actually text mode. I have succeeded to install the system after switching to AHCI in BIOS. As in this configuration the old windows installation will not work I have installed it as a stand-alone OpenSUSE system, and if somebody needs windows, I will run it from the virtualbox.
Thanks for the help.
