I downloaded the demo for “Up That Mountain,” but when I try to run it I get this error about a missing OpenGL extension:
Your OpenGL driver does not support the required extension EXT_texture_compression_s3tc! Try to install an up-do-date driver from the vendor of your graphics card!
I have a Radeon 3400 series graphics card, and the driver is the package xorg-x11-driver-video-radeonhd from openSUSE, and it says it’s up-to-date. Am I just missing an OpenGL module, or should I try and install a different driver?
I’m not completely sure but I suggest you try to install the ATI proprietary drivers.
There are some problems with license agreements, just search for s3tc and linux.
I tried installing the driver via YaST on that page, but it broke my computer. I had to re-install the X server package and default driver to get my desktop back.
I’m going to try a couple more things, but if anyone has any ideas, please let me know. Here are my relevant system specs:
openSUSE 11.3 w/ GNOME
kernel-default 2.6.34.7-0.7.1
xorg-x11-driver-video-radeonhd from openSUSE-11.3-Oss (default working driver)
Mobility Radeon HD 3400 Series
If I was you I wouldn’t install the driver via YaST.
But I would download them from here: AMD Graphics Drivers & Software
And then run the executable in text mode.
My experiences with installing via YaST is that it sometimes works and sometimes fails.
That’s why I go for sure and install the manually.
The only downside is that when you update your kernel you need to recompile the drivers.
BTW you need the kernel headers and source to compile the driver.
