i think that i have to boot the computer from the cdrom drive with the opensuse cd in it is that right?
i opened the bios and changed the sequence of drives in setup and also pressed f12 to the boot menu and tried to boot the cd first but it wouldnt work. how do you do it?
thanks
also thier is a error message when computer is booting up. it says
floppy diskette seek failure
strike the f1 key to continue, f2 to run the setup utility
the computer boots up when press f1 though
I’m not sure what your F12 business is.
But if you set the cd as first boot device, disable floppy,
what actually happens??
If you want to get an openSUSE Live DVD/CD to boot, you have to change the boot order in your BIOS; depending on your system, you may have to press F2 or another function key to do this.
Once you have installed openSUSE, you must return your BIOS to its normal state to enable GRUB to take over.
yes i want to install opensuse 11.0. i have pressed f2 to get into setup and have changed the boot sequence so that the cdrom boots first. ive marked the floppy as not present but cant delete it. the computer doesnt have a floppy drive. i went into the boot menu too and changed it thier but get the above error message when press f1 it boots from the hard drive.
One of the factors that make booting possible is the BIOS and weather you have “A” Drive first makes no difference if you don’t have an “A” Drive thats ok. (In an Emergency that is useful with a usb A Drive as it will be recognized by BIOS as an A Drive)
A Drive is ok first.
CD Drive should always be second.
HDD Drive third
And USB or Network always last.
You Mention CD-rom… You should be CD/DVD for installing from DVD
Hope I didn’t misinterpret this.
Did have problem on an older PC with a CD/DVD that would only read CD’s while installing 9.1
Good luck
