cant get opensuse 11.1 to reach internet

HEy can someone give me some clues on how to get out to internet, I have a Intel server/workstation board s5000xvn,2 quad xeons, nvidia 9800gx2. I am dual booting with vista ult 64 ,Opensuse is only distro that boots on this machine(I enjoy suse more just wish could get fully running rite) Poroblem is that i see the 2 eth ports, and one of them being connected but open firefox or try to get update/software its not reaching out. I have DSL, a 5 port switch between the modoem and server. Im lost on what to do here, really wanna see the power of opensuse on this box

What do you mean by ‘Poroblem is that i see the 2 eth ports, and one of them being connected’ ?

Do you have 2 ethernet adapters?

It may be helpful if you were to post the output from the ifconfig command

kdesu ifconfig

(ifconfig has to be run as root)

How far did you check your connection ?

>ip addr

Do you get an IP under eth0 or eth1 ?

I had problems when OpenSuse used NetworkManager instead of the Traditional method, got no IP, weird. Maybe it’s a hint; if you want to change this, simply open Yast -> Network Devices -> Global Options -> Traditional Method with ifup.

Maybe this helps, did the fix for me several times (almost every fresh install)
Cheers
