Can't get higher resolution on openSUSE 3.1 with intel 945g card via RGB to Vizio 32 inch

I have an eMachines T3656 pc with a 945g Intel driver connected via RGB to a 32-inch Vizio TV. I have installed openSUSE 13.1. I can only get the following resolutions:

1024x768
848x480
800x600
640x480

The only one that is usable is the 800x600 (the others settings result in windows being offscreen) but everything is too crowded at that resolution. I would like to add 1336x768 and 1280x720 (720p). I have tried everything I could think of including running sax3 and adding resolutions via xrandr (which resulted in me not being able to boot and I had to re-install). Please help.

Thanks,

Please post /var/log/Xorg.0.log.

But probably that TV just doesn’t tell your graphics card which resolutions it supports? (I don’t think that is even possible via RGB)

Better remove those files generated by sax3 (/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/99-* IIRC), and see here for how to add cusstom modelines/resolutions:
https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Configuring_graphics_cards_and_monitor_settings

Another option in this case would be to provide a custom EDID file to the kernel, see here:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/kernel_mode_setting#Forcing_modes_and_EDID

There’s a television thread about a Vizio resolution problem right here end
of May maybe will help if you read through it. Is yours only 720p too? My
Vizios are both 1080 and behave nicely with my Intel video PCs and openSUSE.
