I get Skype playback audio (I hear the lady on the Skype call testing service) not through my headphones but through the computer speakers.
The headset is a Logitech USB Headset A00009 and it works just fine with Audacity after I select the Logitech for playback and record in the pulldown menus. I can record and then play back.
In Skype however, I don’t seem to be able to select the Logitech. I only have “PulseAudio Server” for the mic and speaker.
This is a freshly loaded machine. I haven’t made any multimedia additions and didn’t think I’d have to for this simple task. The Logitech works with Audacity on the same machine. It is SUSE 12.1 running on an Intel D865PERL.
Last night I got this to work thanks to your blog posting. I was able to see in the PulseAudio Volume Control that the microphone input for the headset was set to MUTE. Now it is not and it works now with Skype.
That’s interesting caf4926. I was using Kmix accessed thru the volume icon in the tray. I have version 3.9. I just had a look at it and Kmix does not even show the USB headset now although it is working on the system with Skype and Audacity and it shows in PulseAudio for both record and playback, in parallel with the mainboard audio. I can independently control all. Is my Kmix broken?
That’s weird. I go to YaST and ask about Kmix. There I see that I have 4.7.2-2.1.2 installed (there is a checkmark and no “available” shown) yet shows as 3.9 in Kmix run from the toolbar.
More weirdness. If I go to the toolbar and get the mixer going with the button under the volume slider, it identifies itself as KMix Versin 3.9 “using KDE Development Platform 4.7.2 release 5”. This is the one that does not show the USB headphone. If I go to the kickoff launcher (KDE) and search Kmix, there are two choices **KMix **and run KMix. Neither gives me the mixer. The timer icon comes up like its doing something and then stops. no mixer.
