Can't download OpenSuSE 11.3

I can’t download OpenSuSE 11.3 and it is driving me MAD!

I have tried two different ISPs and the download constantly times out.

Hi there,

i think you should try via torrent,
even if it times out i can start downloading over and over again,

well, but, i think that dont solve your internet problems?
Is there a dmesg output wich could help fixing the problem?
Or does your network works normal?

since you tried two different ISPs, i’d say the problem is in your
machine or somewhere between you and those two different ISPs…

or you are having to go through a pipe someone owns who is placing a
limit on your connection (like an office, school, netcafe, wifi network)…

try a torrent, at least that way what you have downloaded STAYS on
your machine, and then you can resume the download when that pipe
owner decides to let you fetch more…

Not my machine since I used two different PCs at two different locations on two different ISPs, I suspect that the problem is more to do with the number of people trying to download the recently released 11.3.

I haven’t tried a torrent but that is certainly a thought, thanks.

FWIW, the torrent for me downloaded the 4.7GB DVD version in about an hour.

OK, in desperation, I have tried BitTorrent - which which I am not at all familiar.

When attempting to download the 4.04 GB 32-bit version it failed four times with the message:

File: openSUSE-11.3-DVD-i586.iso
The system cannot find the path specified.
Strangely strange???

I am now trying the 64-bit version and BitTorrent reports that it should download in about an hour.

I have always avoided BitTorrent because you never know exactly what you are getting and who may have messed with it - I assume that running MD5SUM on the downloaded .ISO should confirm that it is clean and safe?

testing the md5sum is always a good idea, cause it shows wheter the image is the same the builder published

Quite so, I would ALWAYS use it to test a downloaded file where possible.

YEEHAH! I have now managed to download the 64-bit version, apparently successfully and I seem to be downloading the 32-bit version. It appears that the problem was that there was a file called “openSUSE-11.3-DVD-i586.iso” in my target directory and BitTorrent wanted to create a folder of that name; once I deleted it, I was up and running.

Horray for BitTorrent, I need to look into it a bit more - very many thanks Athaki & DenverD.
