Hello. I’ve been trying for weeks to use my printer from openSUSE.
It’s HP Officejet 5740 e-All-in-One Printer ( this page says that this printer should be fully supported in SUSE ).
Using openSUSE LEAP 42.1.
The printer is wirelessly connected to my home wifi network.
Other machines running OSX or windows can print to it and receive scans from it.
Have HPLIP installed.
I have the ip address for the printer and can ping it from the terminal.
Here are the methods I’ve tried to install the printer (and the results):
[ul]
[li]Using hp-setup[/li]
[li]I select Network/Ethernet/Wireless network option and hit next [/li][li]It says no devices found [/li][/ul]
[li]Using hp-setup (again)[/li][ul]
[li]I select Network/Ethernet/Wireless network option [/li][li]I click on show advanced options [/li][li]Under “manual discovery” I type the ip address and hit next [/li][li]It says no devices found [/li][/ul]
[li]Using hp-setup (again)[/li][ul]
[li]I select Wireless/802.11 option [/li][li]It requires a usb connection (which I don’t have) [/li][/ul]
[li]Using CUPS web interface[/li][ul]
[li]I go to Administration tab and click on Add Printer [/li][li]I’ve tried every protocol type [/li][li]I enter the make as HP [/li][li]I choose a model:[/li]
[li]Officejet 5740 doesn’t show up here but 5600 and some others do. I try those [/li][/ul]
[li]I click “Add Printer” [/li][li]When I try to print a test page, nothing happens [/li]
[li]Using YaST2[/li]
[li]Won’t detect my printer there either [/li]
Sorry for the tedium of the list of things I’ve tried. In essence, the printer is definitely there on the network and my computer can communicate with it (via ping), but none of the printer software seems to recognize it.
I would really appreciate any advice you guys can give about this. Let me know if there’s any other information I can provide. Thanks so much!
