can't connect via Bluetooth to mobile

Hello,

I can connect via Windows XP to my computer and have it send pictures to my mobile.

I have a Nokia 7210 supernova mobile.
I have a EMINENT EM1081 bBlue dongle.
I use openSUSE 11.3 with Gnome.

I cannot however get my computer to connect (nor vice versa) to my mobile phone under Linux.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you,

wba

I noticed that you’ve had no replies to your post since you posted it 5 days ago so I’ll attempt an answer and I hope you will find something of interest.
First of all I had a look at the openSUSE Hardware databases

  • French version (unfortunately whilst I was composing this reply, none of the subcategory hyperlinks in the French version were working because the wiki was under reconstruction).
  • English version - and in particular at the Bluetooth adapters hyperlink - but I could not find anything which matched your EMINENT EM1081 bBlue dongle.

I then went to the relevant Eminent online product page but I found nothing useful in the online manual or the online datasheet so I downloaded the Drivers/software, extracted the contents of the zip file and found that the Toshiba BlueSoleil Windows driver was specified in the relevant Setup.ini, and some research of Bluesoleil’s hardware suggested to me that the EM1081 is probably based on the BlueSoleil i40 module.

I am happy to be corrected but I don’t think that your Bluetooth dongle is currently supported by linux.

I am fairly confident that your mobile phone’s Bluetooth will work fine with openSUSE 11.3/Gnome as long as you use a linux compatible Bluetooth dongle. I have used several Class 2 dongles successfully with openSUSE 11.3/Gnome and a Samsung S3100 mobile. From my list here is a selection of the ones which are currently available from Amazon (France):
Belkin - F8T016ng - Mini Adaptateur USB Bluetooth Class II (portée 10 m)
Hama Nano Bluetooth

I should point out that the Bluetooth dongles that I have used with openSUSE11.3/Gnome conform to the Bluetooth 2.1 standard whereas your mobile conforms to the Bluetooth 2.0 standard. However 2.1 is backwards compatible with 2.0 so there should not be a problem. I have not tried (long range) Class 1 dongles because I wanted to minimize picking up unwanted signals from Bluetooth devices belonging to my neighbours (to decrease the security risks) and Class 2 is more than adequate for normal use.
