Not a good idea. You may need to add the user to the dialout group first:

YaST > Security and Users > User and Group Management

thanks deano_ferrari for the reply.
when gone to user and group management, i can see that i’m already configured as a user. in fact their’s only one user and it’s me. is it that i should change my privileges?

You need to add yourself to the “dialout” group.

  1. YaST->Security and Users->User and Group Management
  2. Select the user from the list
  3. Click “Edit”
  4. Select “Details” tab
  5. In the “Additional Groups” box, check the entry for “dialout”
  6. Click “OK”
  7. Click “Finish”

You will need to logout and login to achieve enlightenment (make it work).
