Hi, im a really big noob to linux, this would be my 1st time using it. ! recently installed opensuse 11.0 and I need to know how to connect to my router.
what ive tried:
computer> yast > network devices > network settings >
then I try to add an ethernet connection, I set it to DHCP and ‘activate on cable connection’ then i click finish.
When I try to use the browser but an error message comes up, I know I’m doing alot of stuff wrong but I cant figure anything out. any help is appreciated
thanks.

connecting to a router from your computer is generally done via a web browser.

ideally you will be hard wired to the router

you do of course need to have a working eth. card, you will need to configure via yast

some on-board eth. devices do not work very well. Mine does, but I still use a PCI card.

Tell us what you have.

This pictorial shows how to set a card up for a router. It was made for 10.3 but you should get the idea OK. Use the option titled “Dynamic IP Setup I - The Suse/openSUSE Defaults. Pics 1 to 6 inclusive” – seems to fit what you’re doing. Get all the ticks and crosses right, don’t hurry.

HowTo Configure a network card in Suse/openSUSE 10.x for LAN and Internet Access.

UPDATE: I got it working!! thanks alot you guys are AMAZING!

¿This HowTo is valid to Suse Linux 9.0 too?

Thanks.

It’s a series of screenshots. They would be different way back in Suse Linux 9. But the underlying networking hasn’t changed, so the settings implicit in the screenshots would apply to ver 9.0 as well.
