Can't connect to OpenSUSE forums...

Heya,

I’m having a very wierd problem. I can’t connect to the OpenSUSE forums from my university. The problem arises when I boot my computer up in OpenSUSE. The only way I can connect to the internet is using a cable and a proxy server. And then I can’t connect to these forums. The wireless network doesn’t work because it needs some sort of CA- certificate that Open-SUSE doesn’t have.

When I boot up my computer in Windows 7, I can only connect to the internet using wireless and no proxy. And then I can connect to these forums. In fact I’m writing this from uni. This is a tad confusing and very frustrating since I do all my uni-work in OpenSUSE.

I dunno were to start with solving this wierd problem…

Uni may be having a transparent proxy and WPA/WPA2 Enterprise security enabled for wireless. Please check with network admin about this.

When in openSUSE, see if you can snoop the packet and see what happens when you connect to openSUSE forums. (Install, wireshark).

It turns out that the proxy server here blocks a lot of ports. It might be that. The IT-Support told me that Linux can connect to our wireless just fine. So I tried that. And now it works for some reason. I’m writing from uni, using wireless internet…

openSUSE forums site doesn’t use special ports. It could be that the proxy is filtering URLs.
