cant close windows with compiz enabled

So I enabled compiz on my suse 11 kde 4 box and found out how sweet it really is. Also how more advanced it is than Vistas crappy eye candy. But anyways…

When I have it enabled everything works just fine for about 5 - 10 min. Then after that I can no longer close windows. If I click on the red x to close the window, the mouse turns into the resize icon and does nothing. The only way I can close windows is from the panel, right click. Sometimes it will come back and start working but eventally it starts doing the same thing. Anyone ever run into this before???

Also does anyone notice that when compiz is enabled sometimes it makes the systray icons discolored?

Never mind I went into yast and updated every piece of software that there was a update for and now it works just fine.

On another note, where the heck is the option to change themes, icon setings, and all that other stuff?? In kde 4.0 there was an option in the start menue called something like personal settings or something like that. I dont see that in ked 4.1.

Hi,

I have the same problem, the minimise, maximise and close buttons all disappear when I enable compiz. Also, when I move one window, then try to move another, it just resizes the first. I tried updating everything through the suse updater like you suggested, but this has made no difference. Was there anything else that you did to stop compiz doing these things?

Thanks

EDIT: changing themes is accessible by right clicking on the desktop -> Desktop settings

I am having the same issue here on 2 different computers. One is running openSUSE 11 32bit with an ATI Radeon 9600 Pro, and the other is running 64bit with an nvidia 7900GS. Both computers exhibit exactly the same behavior. I am a relative newbie at this Linux stuff and any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi
Do you mean you don’t see the close/min/max buttons, ie no window
decoration? If so is it enabled in ccsm → effects → window decoration
and the command is “compiz-decorator --replace”.

Thanks for the reply, yes, I see the buttons. Window decorations are on. When I try to hit the red x to close the window, the cursor changes to the resize icon instead. With more than one window open, it sometimes will not change focus (click on one window, the other moves/resizes/snaps forward). If I try to grab the window frame to move it, it also changes to resize. Sometimes it will grab the window in the background instead. Everything works fine if I don’t have desktop effects enabled, but that’s not as flashy!

Hi
What happens if you go the the control center -> desktop effects and
set it to default?

If you create a test user, still the same issue?

I will try both of your suggestions when I get home this evening. Could you please explain what control center you are referring to?
I will post back with the results. Thanks again!
