Can't choose any input method in Ibus (OpenSUSE 12.3 KDE)

Hi everyone, I’m a Vietnamese (and sorry for my English).

I need ibus-unikey for my typing, but i can’t choose Vietnamese input method from Ibus Preferences.

When install ibus, ibus-unikey (via zypper). Ibus started, but i can’t choose any input method, all button is disable, althought vietnamese engine input for ibus was installed (ibus-unikey).

Here is some picture:

Thanks for your helps.

Yes, I was a long time user of ibus over many versions of openSUSE and noticed similar behaviour to what you see when trying to use ibus with anthy or mozc in 12.3
I couldn’t find a solution but through a bit of investigating it seems that the future of ime in openSUSE is with fcitx rather than ibus.
I installed fcitx and mozc and had it up and running in no time at all with 12.3
It has much better KDE integration and fewer gtk dependencies than ibus.

Give that a try and see how you get on.

oh, just a tip that I got caught out on when installing fcitx

when you install fcitx it will drag in its required dependencies but it does not drag in the kde4 configuration utility. You will also need to manually add

fcitx-config-kde4

and

fcitx-unikey (for Vietnamese support)

I’ve just been having a play with ibus and the solution to your problem is ridiculously simple.

You will see in your screenshot above that all the input method options are greyed out . . .

but the tiny little arrows to the left are not greyed out.

To select your input option you need to click on the tiny little arrow and the window will expand allowing you to choose your input option.

It is obviously a bug that wont let you click on the word - but at least you can still use ibus if you prefer that over fcitx.

Thank you very much

I was try fcitx, and i can type Vietnamese, but only with application such as: geany, chromium, firefox… All QT application (kate, kwrite, Libre Office…) can’t type vietnamese !

Here is the package i installed (via Zypper, and Fcitx KDE config via software.opensuse.org: ):

rpm -qa|grep “^fcitx”

fcitx-branding-openSUSE-4.2.7-1.7.1.noarch
fcitx-unikey-0.2.0-1.1.1.x86_64
fcitx-4.2.7-1.7.1.x86_64
fcitx-gtk2-4.2.7-1.7.1.x86_64
fcitx-table-other-0.2.1-2.1.1.noarch
fcitx-m17n-0.2.0-1.1.1.x86_64
fcitx-qt4-4.2.7-1.7.1.x86_64
fcitx-table-vi-qr-0.2.1-2.1.1.noarch
fcitx-config-kde4-0.4.2-1.1.1.x86_64
fcitx-gtk3-4.2.7-1.7.1.x86_64
fcitx-table-4.2.7-1.7.1.x86_64

I will retry with Ibus as you guide.

Thank you.

that looks fine to me and should work.
This is what I have

rpm -qa|grep "^fcitx"
fcitx-4.2.7-1.7.1.x86_64
fcitx-gtk2-4.2.7-1.7.1.x86_64
fcitx-config-kde4-0.4.2-1.1.1.x86_64
fcitx-qt4-4.2.7-1.7.1.x86_64
fcitx-table-4.2.7-1.7.1.x86_64
fcitx-branding-openSUSE-4.2.7-1.7.1.noarch
fcitx-gtk3-4.2.7-1.7.1.x86_64
fcitx-mozc-1.6.1187.102-2.4.1.x86_64

you must reboot after installing and setting up fcitx for all settings to take effect.

But if you have trouble I guess you should be able to get ibus to work if it has worked for you in the past.

Thank you ! My problem was solved, i can use ibus-unikey for typing in all application (bott Qt and Gtk)

And I thinks, everyone if use Ibus, they should have noticed about “The little arrow on the left still can use”
