Can't boot with new kernel

Greetings,

Performed an upgrade from Leap 15.0 to 15.2 build 617.1. All went well until tried to boot failed with following errors:

ata1.00: failed to IDENTIFY (I/O error, errno=-5)
ata1.00: revalidation failed (errno=-5)

Then it goes worse and spam errors like:

sd 0:0:0:0 [sda] tag#20 access beyond end of device

It does however works just fine if if i use the old kernel from GRUB menu (4.12) so it must be a setting issue or something. I saw old posts suggesting booting with “noapic acpi=off” but nothing changed.

Thank you!

Submit bug report on https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/. It sounds like kernel regression.

It could be Bug 1166664.

Work is underway to come up with a kernel that does not have the same problems.

There is new kernel build but it is still broken. Should I make a bug report?

The bug fix is now in the source tree. But it was not in the most recent kernel build for 15.2.

Your problem is likely to be either:

Bug 1166664
or
Bug 1169038

There’s a test kernel mentioned in the second of those bug reports. You can try that. It supposedly fixes both problems.
