Can't boot into windows 7 after deleting the Opensuse partition.

I was dual booting windows 7 with opensuse 11.3 and then realized I wasn’t ever using Opensuse. I then deleted the partition it was in and now I cannot boot into windows. Grub immediately takes over upon booting but doesn’t detect any partitions. I tried booting from an opensuse cd and changing the boot order priority, but grub still comes up. I don’t have a windows 7 installation disc. How can I bypass grub or make it boot windows?

It sounds like you have two issues now. First, you installed Grub into the Master Boot Record (MBR) and it needs to be restored back generic booting AND most likely the Windows partition is not marked active for booting. Both problems can be tricky to fix, but the norm would be to boot from your Windows 7 CD and elect to repair your installation. You may have to run the repair twice as there are two problems.

Once you have installed openSUSE on the same drive as Windows, it would have been best to leave openSUSE alone. If for any reason you don’t have a bootable Windows 7 CD, that is more of a problem. I actually found a program online that fixes a bad MBR and it only cost $5, but it must be loaded on a working system in order to create a boot disk. Second, if you fix the MBR, you can use a program like Parted Magic to set any partition active for booting and the program is free, but you need a working computer to create it.

If you have a PC from a name brand company, you may be able to seek help from their technical support. These are just a few possibilities for you.

Thank You,

A recover cd is available here for download to restore the windows mbr and boot code
But all you may have to do is use parted magic to switch the boot flag to the windows partition or the boot partition if it has one

I managed to get OpenSuse cd to run and reinstalled it in a much smaller partition. This has restored my ability to use windows as well. I don’t mind Opensuse being on my system as it had its uses at times. It wont affect me as much now that it is on a small partition for use when I need it. The problem with using a windows 7 cd is that I do not own one as it never came with the system.

Iberez, I think you made a wise choice. caf4926 posted a location where using bittorrent in openSUSE, you can obtain Windows 7 boot disks (64 or 32 bit) which can be used to repair your installation. You might want to get a copy of the right one just in case**.
