Cant boot into Suse 11.1 after Arconis recovery of XP

I am having a problem getting Suse 11.1 to start.

I rebuilt my PC as follows and everything was working using Grub.

SDA1 - NTFS - Windows XP Pro 64bit
SDA2 - FAT32 - Arconis backups
SDA3 - Extended Partition
SDA5 - SWAP
SDA6 - EXT3 - openSuse 11.1
SDA7 - EXT3 - /home

I bought Arconis True Image and backed up my Windows Partition.

I restored my windows partition a few weeks later and re-booted and it just came up saying no bootable media. I did some research and found that I had didn’t have an active partition. I booted into Knoppix and set SDA1 as Active using one of the partition editors.

Now Windows boots fine, but I don’t get the Grub bootloader or the option to select Suse. I guess the MBR is back to the Windows MBR?

If this is the case how do I re-install grub to the MBR? Ive tried the recovery option on the Suse DVD and it said it had repaired the boot loader but still it goes straight into Windows. I have also followed a couple of Grub install guides but still nothing works and Windows prevails. :frowning:

Might be due to the fact that true image can’t handle the larger inode size that is use for ext3 since 11.0
You could try fixing it by adding openSUSE to the windows boot loader.
Have a read here Boot Multiboot openSUSE Windows (2000, XP, Vista - any mix) with Windows bootloader.

I have just read through the attached and it sounds quite straight forward. I will try that when I am home tonight and let you know how I got on.

Thanks for your help.
