I’ve been following the same problem here : http://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-technical-help-here/wireless/471333-network-issues-12-1-a-2.html.
I’ve done the modprobe and dropped the n version …
Still can’t activate my wireless

Anyone can help me ? What am i missing ? I am using Lenovo thinkpad e420. Really needs the wireless working…

Thanks in advance
Stevan

I tinkerid around and isntall rfkill …

linux-9gwv:~ # rfkill list all
0: phy0: Wireless LAN
Soft blocked: no
Hard blocked: no
1: acer-wireless: Wireless LAN
Soft blocked: yes
Hard blocked: no

Why is my wireless detected as acer-wireless ?

And I can’t unblock it with

rfkill unblock all
rfkill unblock 1

What is the brand of your computer/laptop?

You might have version of the problem that
the kernel module for acer laptops and wireless devices is loaded on laptops of other brands
including Lenovo and Sony devices.
Compare threads tagged with acer-wmi (click on the according tag I added at the bottom).
What irritates me is that your intel device is not shown at all with “rfkill list all”.

You may check if acer-wmi is loaded by

lsmod | grep acer*

.

After tinkered it a while i can make it work with this :

https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-nettool/+question/191500

My laptop is thinkpad edge e420 , all i have to do is blacklist the acer wireless

so you have to vim /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

add the following line

blacklist acer_wmi

I staggered a bit when i see the file doesn’t exist , but when I create one and added the line it’s all working … Hope anyone who have the same problem don’t take as long as me

Thanks for your reply …

I am happy to read that your system is working now.

I guess the file normally used for the blacklist has just slide an other name under openSUSE than under Ubuntu, compare:
Tag: acer-wmi
