I recently wanted to install openSUSE on my HP 6730s, using a promo 12.1 DVD. I put the DVD in the bay and started the computer. The disk was spinning, but the computer was stuck in the BIOS screen (i.e. I don’t think it’s even reading the boot sector from the disk, let alone starting GRUB).
I then tried with all the older versions starting from 11.1, both live CDs and install DVDs, both on optical media and from USB sticks, with the same result. The funny thing is, I had openSUSE 11.4 installed (but I can’t remember how on earth I did that :D), so I’m pretty sure there is a solution to my problem.
When I tried installing Ubuntu, it worked right out of the box. Does anyone have any idea what is different in the early booting sequence between Ubuntu and openSUSE? Thanks in advance for any tips.
