I purchased the multifunctional while still on 11.1 as I found that Canon provided support. My bad luck is that they have not updated for 11.2. Like so many companies they seem to be stuck with the masses of rewiting for Windows and are unable to turn their attention to Linux once a year. :’(
I have thought of the possibiliy of using the procs from 11.1 incorporated into 11.2 or as a separate routine that I can point to. The problem is that I do not know whether this is possible or, if it is, how to do it. The main problem appears to be suffix .1 changed to .2. :\
Any ideas or assistance from those of you who have software experience? :\
Hi, my apologies. When I came back on I did not find my original post - memory shot.
Anyway, scanimage -L says ‘no scanners were identified’ and suggests referring to documantation.
sane-find-scanner -q comes back ‘libusb couldn’t open USB device /dev/bus/usb/001/001: Permission denied.
libusb requires write access to USB device nodes’, plus three additional similar entries.
Changing to su scanimage gives the same message, ‘no scanners identified’ but does not list ‘permission denied’.
sane-find finds nothing.
Referring to documentation ‘man-k sane’ provides a list of various scanners but not multifunctionals.
‘man -k printer’ also no help.

There is a web page that lists what scanners are supported by linux, and
another that lists printers. I have to leave, I don’t remember the links. I
don’t usually count manufacturer support as real support. Better if it is
something that comes from the community, really open. Greater chances of
survival.
If you don’t get the printer working, have a look at Turboprint. It is
payware, but reasonable priced: they provide drivers for cannon printers
and they are good. I had to use them to get good printing from my old
cannon. Now I run away from cannon, I don’t want them again if I can help it.
You can download turboprint for free and test it; it will print a banner in
the middle of the page, but you can see if you like the results or not. If
you do, you pay, and the banner disappears
(No, I’m not affiliated to them in any way. I simply was a happy customer)

Try issuing the command with root privileges. Type ‘su -’ (enter your root password when prompted), then ‘sane-find-scanner -q’
