Canon Pixma mp210 openSuSE 12.2 libtiff conflict

Trying to configure this printer/scanner on a fresh 12.2 install.

As I have found from previous releases, no driver is available as part of the install so I downloaded the driver package from canon.

I installed the “common” rpm with no problem but when I tried to install the “mp210series” rpm, I get the message “libtiff.so.3 needed…”.

Now, libtiff.so.5 is installed by 12.2.

Anybody got any ideas how I can get the mp210 running under 12.2?

Cheers

Install libtiff3?
software.opensuse.org:

i am running 12.3 and have another canon printer.
encountered similar. I installed libtiff3 then. i have now both libtiff3 and libtiff5. not causing me any problems.
in my case, i also needed to install some libxml2* packages.

Install libtiff3?

I thought the library was libtiff.so with the major release number after it. So. libtiff.so.3 was earlier than libtiff.so.5.

ANyhow, went into the yast software management and looked for libtiff3. Nothing. Added packman repo and tried again. Still nothing. Got libtiff5 but no libtiff3. Which repo should I get?

Well, I did post a link…
Or see here: software.opensuse.org: Install package graphics / libtiff3

And yes. libtiff.so.3 (which is in the package “libtiff3”) is earlier than libtiff.so.5 from package “libtiff5”.
But your canon driver needs the earlier version.

Arrrgggghhhh! SOryy Wolfi, didn’t notice it.

OK. Installed it an was then able to install the driver from canon.

Now, yast doesn’t see it! In fact, if I ask yast to list drivers for any model, it still tells me it cannot find anything.

Goint to have a further dig tomorrow.

Thanks for the help.

Cheers.
