have anyone even installed canon mf8280cw mutifunction printer for opensuse (13.2)?

i checked canon site and downloaded a driver for linux (generic).

any ideas or suggestions?

You mentioned that you’ve downloaded (and installed?) a driver from the Canon site. Tell us precisely what steps you’ve taken so far.

BTW, are you connecting via ethernet or USB?

I have one. The Support and Drivers area of canonusa.com shows a UFR II Printer Driver for linux, downloading as a .tgz. I don’t remember exactly what I ended up doing to install it but it certainly wasn’t anything too mysterious. You don’t get scan or fax functions, but the printing part seems to work fine.

Here is the link to the correct Linux driver for Canon i-SENSYS MF8280Cw

This is the English version, but on this page you will see a pulldown where you can select the version for other languages.

You will probably find other Linux material here for your printer.

thanks for reply. i just downloaded and not installed yet. btw, i will be using Ethernet networking, using the printers as other m$ based machines.

Did you read the documentation at that site? Usually, there are some specific ways of working with the install for the Canon printers. If that does not provide you with enough information for you to proceed, reply back here and I will double-check the directions for you.

that is what i got confused about. there only two txt docs: one is for license and another one almost barely touched opensuse, but nothing about how to install the driver.

i am thinking about using general rpm command “sudo rpm -ivh xxxxxx.rpm” since i am not so sure about zypper.

There is a licence, a Readme, and an archived Guide. It is very important that you extract and read that Guide’s installation instructions before proceeding.
