Canon LBP800 install

I want to try that.

It’s a bit more than converting .deb to .rpm, though, need help.

He has two different .sh scripts for Ibex and Hardy and he modified his install files for each version.

So, I need not only to convert them to .rpm, but also make sure they work on OpenSuse, and also modify .sh script.

Maybe he mentions the source of his drivers somewhere, I don’t know French.

Altogether it’s a whole new game. Do I need to “recompile” the drivers or whatever needs to be done? Are there any license issues?

I’ve never done anything like that before and definitely need guidance.

On the other hand, if my current driver isn’t working properly - can I somehow fix that?

I saw three actions in the error log - run the page through filter, then engage “backend”, then let printers.cgi to do whatever it was doing.

From the noise the printer was making, it didn’t understand the basics - how to draw in the paper, maybe there are more errors with the content of the “filtered” data, but for now I want to fix basic communications between Cups and the printer.

If I make clear I cannot help you with this; I hope I don’t infuriate you if I say a new LBP printer; (eg the LBP3100 that installed perfectly our 32bit Suse system) costs about $US50; and I guess is about 50euros etc: (cheaper than a virus checker on a windows system)

Yeah, it’s either that or install Ubuntu…

This is a school machine and a school printer, I don’t have a choice of hardware.

I’m wondering, though, if I share this printer with networked Windows, do I need a working driver on MY machine at all? There is a driver for Windows, wouldn’t that be enough for them to print? Do they pass through my cups?

when Swerdna is not throwing prawns on the BBQ, he would likely be able to offer advice on your problem

Linux HOWTOs and Tutorials: Suse Linux 10.0, 10.1 openSUSE 10.2, 10.3, 11.0, 11.1

if you post maybe on the Network/internet forum, you might catch his attention: I am sure with your windows/open suse mix, some compromise can be sorted

eg

Printer Sharing: Windows Print Server for Suse/openSUSE Linux Clients [Samba and LPD]

I make no promises here. This might be like ‘trying to sweep car park with tooth brush’. Anyway, this HOWTO describes how to share a Windows-connected printer via samba with a couple of scripts and suitable CUPS config. You’re on your own here though - I’ve never tried it. There are a few sites that detail similar approaches if you’re prepared to search (eg ‘samba printing without driver’).

I also found this:

Canon LBP-810/LBP-1120 CAPT Linux driver

Good luck.

Please can somebody send me the tarball of the driver, the author’s URL don’t work anymore.

I may try making it runing (I was just given a fully functional LBP-800)

thanks
