canon ix4000 printer driver needed!

I’m a newb just switching from vista to linux.

I’ve tried UBUNTU 8.04 on my notebook (Packard Bell easynoteBU 45) and was able to print on my canon ix4000 printer by using the ix5000 printer driver supplied by Ubuntu 8.04.
Everything works fine except have some difficulty installing software package (compiling and installing process) :frowning:

Because I still trying and searching of the most suitable distro to use, I tried OpenSuse 11.0 and I like the way YAST perform the installation process. But I couldn’t print to my canon ix4000 printer 'cos no driver for it in OpenSuse 11.0.

my question is:

  1. Is there any way & how to extract/port the printer driver supplied for vista to be used in OpenSuse 11.0?
  2. can print to my printer by using canon ix5000 driver in Ubuntu 8.04. Is there any way and how to extract/use the ix5000 driver supplied by Ubuntu 8.04 for OpenSuse 11.0?

how did you get along, lindevox?

Folks asking about canon printer drivers do get pointed towards turboprint; we upgraded our version to the new tp2; it works very well; prints well out of gimp as well, so colour prints work well; many resent paying, but it is the cost of a couple of linux magazines at a newsagent; or a few beers … it just sort of works very well; you get your printer working …
