Cannot use Minimwatch with Firewall

Am using the brilliant music server MinimServer on Qnap NAS to serve my music files. When minimserver runs headless there is a companion program MinimWatch which is used to administrate when required. Unfortunately I cannot get this to work through the firewall on my openSUSE 12.1 system. The writer advises that the protocols used are UPnP/SSDP.

I am posting here to seek advice on how to add these services as permitted in the firewall. The advice is to add the Linux equivalent of javaw.exe to “programs that are permitted to open firewall” but this is a windoze approach and I do not think the openSUSE firewall can be made to work in the same way. Is there an easy way of finding out which ports are being used so I can open these for UDP traffic?

Can anybody please help?

i just googled and found this link MinimServer user guide it explains all the steps needed which are run using java. read it and I’m sure you’ll make it work.

Hi dmera,
Many thanks for the link. I regret the user guide does not address the problem, mainly because the author usually works with windoze and is not familiar with openSUSE firewall. I have solved the problem although not precisely by allowing all traffic from the fixed IPs of the relevant devices. A crude solution but gets me by until I have studied the logs.
Thanks again and if you are into media servers give minimserver a try.

That tutorial says to open port 9790 for http. You can do that with the opensuse firewall.
