Cannot login using "Default" Session Type on openSUSE 12.1

Hi,

I installed openSUSE 12.1 milestone1 (build 0032) with default options (including KDE desktop).

Once installed, I’m unable to login to the desktop using the “Default” Session Type. If I change Session Type to “KDE Plasma Workspace” then I’m able to login. I was under the impression that “KDE Plasma Workspace” is the “Default”. I could also login with ICEWM and TWM.

I have 2 questions:

  1. What could be the problem?
  2. What is the “Default” Session Type?

Regards,
Seshadri

Welcome here !!!

The answer to this is already described in another 12.1 thread. The default used to be “KDE”, it is no longer. Furthermore: are you aware of the fact that 12.1 M1 is a Milestone release, i.e. under heavy development, definitely not stable? If you want stable, install 11.4

As 12.1 is NOT a supported openSUSE level, this will be moved to Prerelease/Beta.

Thanks for the replies. I fully understand I’m using a pre-release (just the first milestone!) and likely to face the problems. I also have 11.4 and 11.3 installed on my other machines which I use for work. I haven’t faced any other issues yet, and I can use the machine normally with “KDE Plasma Workspace”. I guess the new “Default” will be this one (future milestones).

Apparently, I was looking in the wrong category for an answer to my problem, thanks for moving this to appropriate forum.
