Well I am in trouble here.
I added the repo Index of /repositories/GNOME:/STABLE:/3.0/openSUSE_11.4
then did
zypper dup
After the installation completed I tried to logout (from Gnome 3 shell) but couldn’t. A notification appeared saying “cannot find gnome save session” or something similar.
Then pressed ctrl+alt+F2 then used the reboot command as root
After booting the new looking login screen appeared but after typing my password when I tried to login it said “something has gone wrong” and the only option which I see there is logout.
Please help.
I have a similar problem,I upgraded to Gnome 3 using zypper dup but I cant log in into it,it always says that something has gone wrong when I attempt to log in.Unlike the original poster I could log out of the broken Gnome 3 session with no problems.
The problem while logout only occurred once. Now that’s gone. But I still can’t login.
Gnome 2 wasn’t that bad!!!:’(
Try to remove this repository
su
# zypper removerepo http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/GNOME:/STABLE:/3.0/openSUSE_11.4/
Now you are in kernel mode or in Safe mode?
I do not no if the Gnome 3 preview shell would have anything to do with it, But I would un-install it before the update to Gnome 3.
Did you have the preview installed before the update.
But then again it may not matter.
@stamostolias
Done removing the repos. Waiting for your reply.
suse_kid:
Yes it was installed.
Try to unistall it.
I ask you again. Are you in Desktop mode or in Kernel mode?
suse_kid:

Try to remove it.
I want to see your repos
open your terminal
su
# zypper lr -d

@stamostolias
Ready for the next step. NO HURRY. Take your time.
Shuold I include that rep again, now that Gnome 3 seems to work?
Okay here’s what exactly it says
**Unfortunately GNOME 3 failed to start properly and started in the fallback mode.
This most likely means your system (graphics hardware or driver) is not capable of delivering the full GNOME 3 experience.**
No, In my opinion you must wait a little. Gnome 3 is new. I suggest you patience. I thing it is a bug.
No to remove shell, remove the gnome 3 repo. It is impossible to remove shell.
Okay.
But now some things doesn’t seem to work.
Like when click on shutdown/logout nothing happens.
I see no icons on Desktop
What should I do?
open your terminal and write shutdown.
I noticed this in /var/log/messages
gnome-session[10424]: WARNING: App ‘gnome-shell.desktop’ respawning too quickly
And lot of other warnings.
