Cannot install Microsoft ODBC Driver 11 for SQL Server® - SUSE in OpenSUSE

Hi all,

I am trying to setup a developement workstation using OpenSUSE. We are developing in C/C++ and our database is SQL Server. There is an ODBC Driver for SQL Server specifically designed for SUSE Enterprise Server, provided by Microsoft at:

Download Microsoft® ODBC Driver 11 for SQL Server® - SUSE Linux CTP from Official Microsoft Download Center

However after 2 days of getting stuck we could not get it working.

After following carefully all the setup steps. The driver appears to be installed but when we try to run sqlcmd (in order to try it) it we get allways the following message:

sqlcmd: error while loading shared libraries: libcrypto.so.0.9.8: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory.

Has someone successfully installed this driver in OpenSUSE? does anyone knows how to get that libcrypto library working in OpenSUSE?

Thanks in advance.

Do you have the package libcrypto.so.0.9.8 installed?
If not install it.

Sorry, I meant the package libopenssl0_9_8 which contains
libcrypto.so.0.9.8.

openSUSE and SUSE Enterprise Server (aka: SLES) are not the same
systems…it is often the case that software which works on one will
not give the expected results on the other…

i’d suggest if you wish to use the Microsoft provided “ODBC Driver
for SQL Server specifically designed for SUSE Enterprise Server” you
install SLES…you can fetch it from here http://suse.com and join
their forums at http://forums.suse.com/

on the other hand, perhaps Martin knows how to make it work in
openSUSE! (he often pulls magic out of his hat!!)
