I hope somebody can help me installing a Canon MG2550 printer in Leap 16 KDE. System Settings : Printers does see the printer, it calls it : Canon MG 2500 series . “Select recommended driver” is checked, but Canon is not in the list. hwinfo --printer does give information about the printer.
Did you install the drivers?
The drivers for your printer are avalaible here
Just download in your local repository.
As others have said, install the vendor drivers. There is dedicated scanner software for this device as well.
I have downloaded the drivers as well as the drivers for ScanGear. But how do I install the drivers ? The files are rpm files.
Unpack the archive. Navigate to the “packages” directory.
sudo zypper in cnijfilter-mg2500series-4.00-1.x86_64.rpm cnijfilter-common-4.00-1.x86_64.rpm
You must ignore the warning regarding missing package signing key.
Adapt the package names accordingly for the scanner drivers.

I’m sorry I have to tell you I was not able to install the drivers. It says :
Failed dependencies:
gtk2 is needed by cnijfilter-mg2500series-4.00-1.x86_64
gtk2 is needed by scangearmp-common-2.20-1.x86_64
Do NOT use the install.sh file!
Use the command which i provided above. By using zypper, all needed dependencies are installed automatically (when available). I tested the above command in a Leap 16 VB environment. The drivers install just fine.

I have installed the drivers for the printer. The printer works. But unfortunately I was not able to install the ScanGear common drivers for the scan function. It seems not able to find a package that should deliver ‘libpangox-1.0.so.0()(64bit)’
But the printer scans nevertheless. Thank you very much for all your effort !
That is good to know. I guess it is supported by SANE in any case.
