I’ve installed opensuse 11.2 and want to install some more packages.
If I have the online repos enabled the package eclipse is found in Index of /distribution/11.2/repo/oss
If I disable the online repos the packages are not found on the dvd.
i have now searched the dvd and eclipse is not avaiable.
What is wrong? Why eclipse is not on dvd?
Is there an extra dvd as I read only non oss stuff is on other
dvd nad language special stuff…
There are much more things on the repos then on the DVD. The DVD is to let the avarage user have a nice feature full system, but you can not put all and everything on the DVD (it is limiited in size). And after the first install the repos are availble, de DVD is normaly disabled and new software (even if it is also on the DVD) is normaly installed from the repos. A positive side effect is also that when an update is available, you do not have to install it twice.
The DVD’s are limited in size and space as to their contents, so not everything fits. This is why we have the online repositories. We also have SUSE Studio, where you can spin your custom openSUSE so that it includes things you want. Welcome – SUSE Studio
