Cannot Get Hp Wireless Printer working...

Man… this OS has been a BIG PAIN even BEFORE the install!! (too long to explain)

I have been working on this for HOURS and cannot seem to get my printer to work.

I installed HPLIP / then tried installing wireless - NO GO! Then I disconnected my printer from my main office and brought it into my small office on my second pc and tried connecting via USB and NO GO!!! WHAT is the deal here?? If I install ANY Ubuntu/Mint flavor, it works IMMEDIATELY and can LEAVE the printer where it is and it automatically finds it and connect wirelessly!!

I have the HP All In One MPF M225DW printer
and my pc is a DELL Optiplex 760 (Intel).

HOW do I get this running??

EDIT: You know… I’ve got to say… for how much you guys brag this OS up… I am finding that it is no where even CLOSE to Ubuntu in ease of use and your OS is very glitchy!
I had Firefox all set up and then rebooted. It change EVERYTHING back to DEFAULT - HOW FRUSTRATING!!! Even your desktop background changed from the SUSE wallpaper to the KDE wallpaper and WHY is the menu logo not a SUSE logo rather than the K menu logo?

Welcome to openSUSE Forums PinStripe. I can understand your frustration when first installing an OS and the learning curve that can be involved with any unfamiliar OS. I’ll ignore your comments/rant about problems before installing as this is not the forum for that purpose, and irrelevant to getting your printer working in any case.

This initial detection/configuration phase issues could be due to the firewall blocking broacasts. My advice is to disable it while configuring the printer.

systemctl stop SuSEfirewall2.service

Then run

xdg-su -c hp-setup

If you want to rant, post in Soapbox. Please stay on topic.

I entered the code into the Konsole as root and it says - Failed to stop SuSEfirewall2.service: Access denied

It’s more than a rant… it is an actual problem!

You need to do it as root eg using sudo (as with Ubuntu)

sudo systemctl stop SuSEfirewall2.service

Then start a new thread (with suitable title) for each problem in the appropriate subforum. Provide as much detail as possible and users who can assist will try to help. Remember, we are all volunteers here. Attitude makes a difference.

Please re-read my statement.

I read your statement, but that should only happen when not root. You’re best advised to post commands and output enclosed within code tags (refer to the # button in editor) eg

systemctl stop SuSEfirewall2
Failed to stop SuSEfirewall2.service: Access denied
dean@linux-kgxs:~> who
dean pts/0 2016-08-03 18:27 (:0)

Sorry, use whoami…

dean@linux-kgxs:/root> whoami
dean

Ok… I DID type sudo before the code.

You have a choice - become root with this first

su -

Then run the command to stop the firewall, or use sudo. Report back with command and any output.

It says… No such file or directory

After entering ‘su’ and then pass…

I re-entered the firewall code and then the set up…

It is still Not detecting Any printers either when I try USB or wireless

??? I’m sorry, this does not make sense to me. Did you type this in a terminal? Post the commands you type and any output here. Copy/paste and please use CODE tags. Verbal descriptions are not enough to go on.

Starting with USB, open a terminal and do

dmesg --follow

Connect the printer and observe/capture the output. Post back with the details.

You can also run the ‘hp’ backend manually like this. The attached printer should be enumerated…

/usr/lib/cups/backend/hp

If not, run

hp-doctor

and follow the prompts given.

Then I got this:

Permissions are correct.

Did you view the output above?

Nothing is working, here…

I tried to go back into settings and set up a printer and it finally let me in… but guess what??
This OS’s HPLIP is Not up to date! My printer is Not listed - LaserJet Pro MPF m225DW

I have not had to worry about this for over a year now with any other distro.
