cannot change desktops

ok i found the right forum, so ill reask my question,my origanal question was,why cant i change desktops in kde open suse 11.2 after instalation i preconfigured 6 desktops and named them, but when i try to change desktops nothing happens,ie. i click on the next desktop it looks like it changes but when i put another background on and change to another desktop it says the same background. when i did it on another instalation when i switched desktops you could tell it switched b ecause it whent to the default background and there were no widgets. now when i switch the background and widgets stay the same. thanks for the help even though i was in the wrong forum. i hope the i put in this forum will help me solve the problem. this newbee is still learning after i learned to dump MS.

I am not quite sure that I understand what you mean.

Do you mean that you can not give every one of the desktops it own background?

Or do you mean that when you change your desktop to one of the other five, you still see tthe same desktop with the same opened windows?

You need to create different activities, rather than different desktops to get different backgrounds.

Click the cashew in the top right corner and select Desktop settings. Then choose your desktop style and give it a name (You can have more than one name associated with a single desktop style). You can then select an image associated with that activity.

when i click on the next desktop it stays the same it should change to a default backround until i change the background and add widgets.

yes i did that but when i click qn the next desktop it should change to a default background without widgets or any other activity, but nothing happens when i click back to desktop 1

It may be worth posting your query at Index page • KDE Community Forums

I am still trying to see before my eyes what you see. I am not certain but it could be that this is what you mean:
Multiple Desktop backgrounds, KDE 4.3 - openSUSE Forums

than you for the help finding the right link, that did the trick. its hard trying to learn a new os, but worth it to get rid of MS WINDOWS. thanks again.

You are welcome. This is one of the less obvious things to solve (and that is an understatement). Most things are more logical to find. Wishing you success.
