As one guy said, I’m a noob.
I have 2 harddrives in my computer, one has xp and I installed Open Suse 11 from live cd on the other.
If I try to boot I get an error “grub loading error17”
I believe that is the correct number, and nothing happens.
The only way I can boot is with the live cd and then select “hard disk” from it’s menu. It then boots in Open Suse on the hard drive where I installed it.This scared me as I was unable to get to XP, so I did another install, slowly and carefully, and noticed that I could put XP as the default in the boot menu. Did this, but still cannot boot without the live cd, but can get to XP if I boot with the CD and select “hard drive” from it’s menu.
Don’t know where I am or what to do. Hope someone does.
I feel your pain!!!
Okay, (found this out the hard way!!).
It looks like you problem is… Uhhhhhhh. Ding! 1 of 2 (?)
Okay, relax,
--------------------------------------------1---------------------------------------------
- Open your computer,
- Look at your harddrive’s and check to see wich one is master and wich one is slave.
Xp should be slave>:).
Or if they are set to cable-select (cs) start your computer… press F1 on the boot screen
and depending on the bios model select the Linux HDD as master (xp again as slave)
that ought to fix it
--------------------------------------------2---------------------------------------------
Tada!!.
Or,if that did not fix it:
Start OpenSuse,
goto: System
Open: Boot Loader
And…
Iforgot
When I try to start it I get a error message(Thought it was you that needed help???)-Just kidding- it will go away when I restart-(killed yast yesterday-and havent restarted evidently)
anyway DONT USE THIS UNLESS ALL OTHER OPTIONS FAIL!!! (that includes other reply’s)
Select: Grub
Select: MBR
Select: Linux HDD
----------------------_____------------------------___
I have had this problem & I feel your pain-(except mine happend on my parents computer to:shame:).
Hope this helps!
Like I sed, I’m a noob.
Your reply makes me a bit nervous, hate to go fooling with hardware jumpers.
XP is on the master and Suse is on the Slave.
That worked with Ubuntu
Here is what is happening today, I have done nothing in the way of changes since my complaint.
If I boot with no CD, I get “Grub Loading Please wait error 17,” sometimes 21.
Nothing happens.
If I boot with the CD in, and select “Hard Disk” I then get the Grub menu and can select Windows or Open Suse and whatever else is on that menu.
OK I got it.
Went to my bios and changed the boot sequence to hdd2 from hdd1 and away it went.
Thanks.
Got an internet problem, so going to that section now.
