Cannot boot suse 11.3 with realtime kernel

Hi there,
i need to use the realtime kernel because i use jack audio connection kit so i tried to install the realtime kernel from the install/remove software program. I’ve found 2 kernels : Kernel-trace and kernel-rt
i tried both of 'em but i cannot boot up suse.
The first one gets to 3/4 of the loading bar , i hear the welcome sound and then it won’t do anything else.
The second won’t do anything, black screen.
Any solutions?

i’m on an asus 1001px eee pc =)

trace would be a special debug kernel. rt is the one you would want. but looks like it may have heartburn with what ever video chip you have. I assume Intel?

Can you make it to the command line ie enter a 3 at boot screen?

my video chip is an intel gma 3150 , and no , i can’t make it to the command line unfortunately

and no , i can’t make it to the command line unfortunately

-v -v -v

(the above is command line slang, meaning: can you be a little bit more verbose, please)

I guess that you get a boot screen; otherwise you would have reported “doesn’t boot at all”. Now, when you enter “3” in the boot options window: what happens?

here’s the output of what you asked me

It would be interesting to see what is right above “panic”…

What’s the CPU in the machine? It may be that the realtime kernel cannot deal with it properly.

the cpu is an intel atom n450 , 1.66 Ghz single core =) i’m going to make another screenie and i’ll let you know

here it is =)

That’s just one line. Enough to see it’s a total kernel panic. The kernel cannot handle the hardware somehow. I don’t even know if these CPU’s are capable of running with a realtime kernel. Then again, I wouldn’t use a netbook for things like this. They’re nice for browsing, mailing etc. IMHO

Well page up won’t work and i couldn’t see more than that… anyway i used this cpu with rt kernel in ubuntu and it worked , and i managed to install snow leopard too and worked like a charm, too bad there were no graphic kext .-.

Can’t get mine to boot either. Just a black screen. Have to pull the battery from the laptop to shut it down once it’s hung.

I tried messing around trying to compile my own rt kernel, but could never get my wireless card (b43) to work with the results.

My simple solution was to manually install the Ubuntu realtime kernel.

Linux lizard 2.6.31-11-rt #154-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT RT

Now everything works fine except that I have to manually configure the nameserver info when connecting by DHCP. Not a big ubuntu fan, but I’m only using the kernel.
